Sydney Thunder won the 47th match of the ongoing Big Bash League by beating Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets on Thursday (19th January) at Manuka Oval. Matthew Gilkes played the most important role in the thunder’s victory by smashing 74 unbeaten. After winning the toss, Melbourne Renegades had decided to bat top-order batsmen losing their wickets at regular intervals. Martin Guptill scored 30 runs in the at the top while Will Sutherland down the order scored 42 off 23 to take the team to the total of 142/9 in 20 overs. Chris Green and Usman Quadir shone with the ball for Thunder after claiming two wickets each.
Chasing the target, Sydney Thunder got the brilliant service of Matthew Gilkes who scored 74 not out to take the team over the line. He was assisted by Alex Ross who score 40 unbeaten to get the team victory. David Warner had also made 23-run contribution. This is a crucial win for Thunder to increase their points.
